Piriapolis

Piriapolis was Uruguay’s first seaside resort. It is located an hour’s drive east of Montevideo and a 30 minute drive west of Punta del Este.  Piriapolis has a beautiful rambla (seaside walk), the impressive Argentino Hotel built in 1930, and is different than many areas of Uruguay in that is has hills and forests. People say when you are looking toward Cerro de San Antonio from the downtown area at night, it looks like Monaco.

Piriapolis is a smaller and quieter beach resort than Punta del Este. It is a place that is good for families and people looking for tranquility.

Piriapolis has a marina that is home to several fishing boats which keep the local restaurants well supplied with fresh seafood.
